CHANDIGARH: Taking a serious note of the recent violent incidents at a number of hotels, restaurants, lounge bars, pubs and liquor vends across the city, UT excise and taxation department has issued manadatory directions to all liquor selling joints to install close circuit television (CCTV) cameras at their venues.
They have been asked to retain the CCTV footage of all visitors and any untoward incident for a period of at least one month.
Speaking to TOI, UT assistant excise and taxation commissioner Naresh Dube said they have issued a notification to pubs, hotels, lounge bar owners and all liquor vendors of the city, directing them to install CCTV cameras.
"The step has been taken to ensure that people resort to responsible drinking at these places and don't get involved in any altercation and violent incident under the influence of liquor," revealed Dube.
According to liquor vendor Malvinder Singh, "Though CCTV cameras are must but we would have to spend big amount on these cameras.
Earlier, we had put in huge amount to bid for the liquor vends and now this notification."
